About

What Makes Pocket Different

With nearly two decades of design experience and as a mom of two, my perspective on design (and life) has become pretty practical. Individually owned companies who rely on word of mouth for growth need professional design, but they don’t need to spend thousands of dollars or hundreds of hours on it. If you’re just beginning, I’d bet you have a limited budget and are eager to start looking legit.

In order to make the design process simpler and quicker, I think of myself as a “Design Guide” or a curator. After meeting to discuss your business and your needs, I curate and customize illustrations available to purchase, versus starting from scratch. I use my expertise in design to make sure you end up with the right fit. This semi-custom approach saves you time and money, and results in a “designer-approved” professional look. My rate is a reasonable $50/hr.

Who Pocket is For

My niche is mental health professionals. I’ve never heard of a designer specifically for therapists either, but psychology and psychiatry play a major role in my family. It turns out that the way I like to work meshes well with the therapy world. I have always been intrigued by psychology, and working with mental health professionals has been a wonderful way to combine my interest in that and design. Don’t @ me, Corporate America (but I have some good recs!).

My Background

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and took as many women’s studies and psychology courses as I could. After graduating I worked with Americorps for a year and considered a degree in social work or occupational therapy. I decided I couldn’t leave the art and design world behind! I went on to work as a graphic designer for a branding and web design firm. From there, I started my own company designing and producing wedding invitations for couples around the globe. I was fortunate to partner with several large companies, which fueled my growth. During those years, two of my favorite “side projects” were renting, designing, and running a vintage-filled Airbnb in a downtown penthouse, and working as an assistant to an interior designer. In 2022, I decided to pursue my dream of being an artist, and many days are spent painting in a studio in the woods, next door to the 1970s artist-built cabin my family calls home. My paintings are landscape driven but explore my inner landscape, mental illness, and my experience in parenting.

To supplement my painting income I do a little bit of design work. I have two growing babes in my arms (figuratively speaking) and design skills in my back pocket.
